Assistant Professor of Space Science/Astronautical Engineer
MSU invites applications for a position of Assistant
Professor of Space Science/Astronautical Engineer. A tenure track faculty
appointment will be made for an Assistant Professor rank (Ph.D. or ABD).
Candidates with an MS will be considered for a non-tenure faculty appointment
(Instructor rank).
The MSU Space Science Center manages a diverse program that
includes a BS degree in space science, research in astrophysics, small
satellite development (including the KySat series of satellites), ground
operations, a new 21 meter space tracking antenna, and R&D in RF/microwave
and telecommunication systems. A new 45,000 sq-ft R&D and instructional facility
is under construction for this program. We have an opportunity for an
astronautical engineer to engage in both teaching and research with the primary
goal of expanding one of the few such programs in the nation. This position
offers a competitive salary and a $75,000 research start-up fund supported by
the Kentucky EPSCoR program.
Responsibilities include space systems development and
support of the KySat program, teaching up to 6 hours per semester, developing
grant proposals, mentoring students in research and design projects, and
establishing external collaborative relationships.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications: MS in astronautical engineering or
related engineering discipline, with a record of research and publication or
proven experience with small satellite systems; Ph.D. is preferred. Additional
desirable qualifications include experience in space systems development or
mission support, grant writing experience with federal agencies, and
significant teaching experience. This position requires U.S. citizenship in
order to be eligible to apply for ITAR certification/security.
